The beauty contest can be traced back to the ancient European customs and traditions. Needless to say, these pageants basically focussed on females for many years before Men's pageant came into existence. These early Men's pageants were more of a muscle show than anything else. It was in the late 1990's that male beauty pageants become popular and the contest was on broader issues, not just limited to "muscles".
